AID Columbus conducted its very first donor dinner on Nov 20, 2005. About 36 people attended and donated $1350. AID Columbus also had its very first GBM a few days before this event and elected a new Executive committee.
Some of the highlights of this event include:
- The donors brought their families in some cases, in an attempt to sensitize their children toward causes such as AID. This made it a more relaxed event for them, given that it was on a Sunday evening.
- In place of plastic/styrofoam cutlery, plates, glasses, cloth napkins and silverware which were lent by a community member free, were used making the event more environment-friendly and appealing.
- Excellent presentations about the chapter's activities and Tsunami relief as well as a video that had documented the shramdaan efforts of the chapter volunteers thus making the attendees interested in attending future shramdaans.
- Discussion with the attendees about how they could get more involved in the chapter including a brainstorming session on possible ways to contribute directly to projects. It was decided that the chapter would present an education project to this audience at the earliest and seek to enable our attendees to solidify their verbal commitment of a contribution.
- A poster viewing session with dinner where 4 of the chapter's recent projects were presented.
Many of our attendees left with the promise that they would spread the word about AID in their circle and would always extend their support. Some of our attendees made some sizable monetary contributions as well.
